Third Place - Public Buildings - More Than $15 Million - Adroit Construction Co. RCC/SOU Project
Constructing a building for one college or university can be a challenging task. Now imagine doing it for two such entities that will share the space. And while you're at it, throw in the fact that the site is in a congested urban area and the building is supposed to hit a platinum LEED rating.
Easier said than done? Not for the team that designed and built a new facility in Medford for Southern Oregon University and Rogue Community College.
The secrets to the project's success lay in conceptual estimates, design, budgeting and value engineering; conducting demolition during the permitting process and operating under a Guaranteed Maximum price contract.
Administrators at the college and the university say they have seen their enrollment jump, increases that they attribute in part to the new, three story, 68,800 square-foot educational facility they now share.
